'for the love of music'

Dave Brunton & Ben Rood first met in the early part of 2008. Ben is the uk agent for an artist by the name of John Brassett from France. John was booked to play at Dave's local and Ben was there.

Upon talking to Ben, Dave discovered that he also played guitar and invited him along to play at one of the open mic nights that Dave runs. This led to Dave & Ben playing along side each other and Ben enquired if Dave was or would like to be in a band, changing it very quickly to would you like to be in a duo ?

This offer Dave accepted knowing that Ben's tastes are very similar to his own. Ben also remarked that he liked Dave's voice.
(the man's a fool)

So that is just about how the meeting of Ben and Dave came about.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Born and brought up in South West Essex, Ben was first inspired to take up playing guitar on hearing the Shadows playing their current hit “Wonderful Land” in mid-1962. This led to frantic research on the back catalogues of the Shadows and similar instrumental bands.

From 1963 he played in garage bands in the Loughton area, at first using borrowed guitars before acquiring an Eko acoustic later that same year. This was soon fitted with a Hofner magnetic pickup. This made way for a Burns Sonic electric guitar in 1964. Ben followed the changing trends in popular music over the period 1963-65 from instrumentals firstly to beat music and then to R’n’B in the style of the Stones, Pretty Things and Yardbirds.

A family move to the East Midlands in 1965 necessitated locating new band mates. Ben then played in blues, soul and covers bands doing gigs in the pubs, clubs and village halls of Northants, Bucks and Oxfordshire until, feeling too old at 31, he packed up and sold his gear in 1979.

Moving to Suffolk in 1985, the desire to play again had returned and Ben bought a second hand Westone from East End Bargains in Ipswich. This led to the acquisition of a small collection of acoustic and electric guitars. He eventually joined Easy Riders, a band based in Rendham, in 2001, and this evolved into a band called Plan B which is running to date.

Ben favours Fender-style electrics, either Strats or Teles, also using Danelectros. Amps include a Marshall JTM combo, Fender Pro Junior and Hot Rod Deluxe, using a variety of stomp boxes

Dave started playing in 1983 when, at the age of 10, he won a scholarship to the Conservatoire International de Musique de Paris. Of course this is what Dave says, so it could've been that he was much older and he was actually working in the cloakroom of the Palais dancehall in Tottenham.

Although Dave started to dabble in 1983, it wasn't until 1997 when things started to take shape when he and his old college friend, Lefty McBurgess started to visit local blues and acoustic clubs in Enfield, Middlesex. Dave only ever wanted to learn guitar to play at home, for his own enjoyment, but upon relocating to Suffolk in 1999, he has got the bug and won't stop!
